The ideal pack for anyone who wants to make delicate sugarpaste models, especially flower petals, Knightsbridge PME’s Foam Pad Twin Pack offers two styles of food-safe foam boards in one package.

Made from food-safe, resilient plastazote foam, both squares are washable and naturally non-stick, so they’re easy to look after and use.

Flower mat

10mm thick, this white square is ideal for shaping, curling or thinning icing flower petals, edible ribbons and frills with modelling tools. With a completely flat surface, the soft foam pad has the perfect amount of give for applying pressure to thinly rolled icing and stencil-cut shapes so you can stretch and mould the edges of sugarpaste leaves or flowers into life-like 3D shapes.

Mexican mat

Slightly denser than the white flower mat, and thicker, this blue square has five holes pre-cut into the surface in an assortment of sizes, so it’s easy to create and assemble 3D flowers with realistic buds or stems below the petals – the Mexican hat method. Press a green sugarpaste ball into one of the holes and then roll the top part out across the mat, cut to shape if required and then apply the layers of petals to the top. When you lift the flower from the mat, just a squeeze or two will be needed to create a realistic calyx or stem at the base of your bloom. Ideal for rosebuds, primroses and more exotic blooms.
